We've all heard the term "stands the test of time". Few things exemplify this phrase better than the klismos chair. An ancient Greek chair seen on painted pottery and bas-reliefs from the mid-fifth century, the klismos is identified by its curved backrest and tapered out curved legs.
This klismos chair was designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, made by Thomas Wetherill and possibly painted by George Bridport (Philidelphia Museum of Art, circa 1808).
